Esther Nambuya is 60 years. She’s lived through three worlds. Bright, Dark and Bright. The first world had always felt like a default right. She was born with squeaky white eyes that stared gluey constantly at her mother. A pair of eyes that saw her live through her vibrant teenage years with reckless abandon. A pair of eyes that met her first love. Then suddenly, her world became dark. She lost her sight to cataracts and was now faced with a dark world of the unknown. The little things that didn’t matter before suddenly became so important. Take for example, entering her grass thatched house to collect drinking water, like walking to the garden to witness her hard work turning into a bumper harvest, like walking to the neighbors to lazy talk, like cooking her own food. She was faced with the reality of being a toddler all over again. Suddenly with the help of well-wishers, Nambuya was fortunate enough to witness her third world with surgery. She has never experienced anything sweater. She has never valued the gift of seeing again. The world, once lost was returned to her. This simple project follows her through these worlds.
