Uganda hosted the IAAF Cross Country Championships in Kampala to become only the forth country in Africa, after Kenya, South Africa and Morrocco (x2) to host the championship. Uganda came 3rd overall, overcoming 55 other countries that participated. Kenya and Ethiopia proved their dominance in the event, taking first and second place respectively. The highlight for Uganda was Jacob Kiplimo who won the mend U20 race, earning Uganda her first ever gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships.
